PROPHETIC MINISTRY

At River City Church, we believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including prophecy, are available, relevant and desirable today. When a prophetic word is shared during a Sunday morning service, the person delivering the word first receives permission from one of our pastors to do so.

River City Church has developed a trained prophetic team in order to regularly encourage, strengthen and comfort our church family both corporately and individually. Further training is offered on a regular basis. If you are interested in learning more about our prophetic ministry, contact the church office at (208)743-7101 or email us at office@rivercitychurch.us.

What is prophetic ministry?

Prophecy is the Holy Spirit speaking the counsel of God through a human voice.

For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” - 2 Peter 1:21

How does prophetic ministry benefit us?

Prophecy is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Prophetic ministry builds people up by offering specific insight, encouragement and/or guidance and direction to groups or individuals (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).  Prophecy strengthens, encourages, and comforts people. Genuine prophetic ministry never contradicts the written word of God. It does not judge, expose, or shame people. A prophetic word is like a love-note from God. People who deliver those words are messengers, not counselors, advice-givers or fortune-tellers.

But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strength, encouraging and comfort.” - 1 Corinthians 14:3

Spiritual gifts in Scripture:

How do I respond to a prophetic word spoken over me personally?

1. Evaluate it.

  • Does the word given align with the whole counsel of Scripture? The Bible is your filter.
  • Does the word resonate? If so, agree with it in faith. If some aspect does not resonate, keep in mind that prophetic words come through imperfect human vessels (1 Corinthians 13:9). Even so, don’t discard the word too quickly. God often surprises us with insight for our journey which we didn’t anticipate.
  • Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good.”  - 1Thessalonians 5:20-21
  • Discuss the word with a spiritual leader such as a pastor or life group leader. They can offer additional wisdom and help you apply it.

2. Receive and believe it!

  • Pray over the word given to you, and exercise faith that God will accomplish it. Be aware that some words come to pass quickly while others may take years to be fulfilled. Don’t allow unbelief to rob you of God’s purposes for you (Hebrews 3:12). Use the prophetic words spoken over you as a powerful weapon to combat the enemy’s lies.
